Surgeon
Vice Admiral K M Suryanarayana, VSM, took over as the
Director General Medical Services (Navy) on 06 Jun 2011.
The Flag Officer was seconded to Navy from Air Force. Before
taking over as DGMS (Navy), the Air Officer had served as DGHS (AF) at
DGAFMS and DCIDS (Med) at HQ IDS.
After graduating from Govt Medical College Mysore (Karnataka)
he was commissioned into the AMC in 1975 and seconded to Indian Air
force. The flag officer completed his post-graduation from AFMC Pune in
Medicine and was also successful in completing DNB Medicine in 1985. For
his utmost determination and excellent clinical acumen he was awarded
Gold Medal during MD Medicine. Subsequently, he did DM Endocrinology
from prestigious institute PGIMER, Chandigarh in 1994.
The flag officer has held various coveted appointments and
served as PMO HQ MC, IAF during 2007-2008. He also held the appointment
of Senior Consultant Medicine at DGAFMS. He has also served as Clinical
Tutor in Medicine at AFMC Pune from 1983 to 1985 and has served as Prof
and HOD Medicine at Army Hospital (R&R) and CHAF (Bangalore) affiliated
with RGUHS.
The flag officer is a recognised teacher and examiner in
various universities for MD (Internal Medicine), DM (Endocrinology) for
DNB (Endocrinology). He has various papers Publication to his credit and
has also contributed chapters in the text books-“Medical Emergencies”
and “clinical Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus”. He has undertaken
various Research Works.
He is a life time member of various renowned academic
Societies like Association of Physicians of India (API), Endocrine
Society of India (ESI) , Research Society For the Study Of Diabetes in
India (RSSDI) ,Thyroid Society Of India ,Indian Society Of Bone &
Mineral Research (ISBMR).
The flag officer has been duly commended by GOC-in-C, Western
Command, Indian Army in 2002 and was awarded Vishishta Seva Medal
(VSM) in 2005. |
