RELIEF ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY INDIAN NAVY

As of today a total of 19 ships, 10 helicopters and 4 fixed wing aircraft of the Indian Navy are engaged in the Tsunami rehabilitation operations. In addition, the naval bases located near the Tsunami hit areas have been rendering immense contribution towards expediting the process of restoring normalcy.  Over 3000 Indian Naval personnel are committed to these operations.  Approximately 40 Tons of relief supplies (like Tents, Gensets, Desalination Plants, Blankets, etc), and Four Tons of fresh water have been delivered by the naval ships and aircraft to the affected areas in the past 24 hours.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands (Op SEA WAVES)

IN Ships LCU 38, and LCU 34, with relief stores for  Kamorta embarked, undertook beach survey off Katchal, Tarasa and Campbell Bay.

IN LCU 36, disembarked relief stores at Hut Bay.

INS Rajput, has evacuated 21 personnel including eight ladies and 11 children from Shastri Nagar to Campbell Bay and three personnel from Gandhi Nagar to Campbell Bay at their request.

INS Tillangchang, at Nancowry, is continuing with relief efforts.

INS Cheetah, at Hut Bay, is disembarking relief stores.

INS Sandhayak (with Chetak helecopter), off Carnicobar, has embarked personnel from DG Light House  for undertaking survey and repairs to Keating Point and Batti Malv light houses. The Rutland and North Brother light houses have been made operational..

INS Darshak (with Chetak), off Mayabunder, is assisting the Survey of India for carrying survey of the Northern Group of Islands and has completed check survey. The ship has observed that the bathymetry is in general agreement and no major changes have been recorded. A Tidal camp has been setup and observations will be recorded for one week for analysis.

Assistance to Sri Lanka (Op RAINBOW)

Galle

INS Taragiri has taken over  the job of coordinating the relief activities ashore at Galle.

Colombo

INS Nirdeshak has disembarked all the relief supplies for distribution at Ampara. 

INS Sarvekshak has completed setting up of the DGPS station and reported commencement of tidal observations in KKS harbour.  Sounding operation is in progress within breakwater area. Harbour survey by side scanning was carried out and coast lining of the area is complete.

Trincomalee

INS Jamuna continues to be at Trincomalee for providing medical treatment to the affected people and to coordinate relief operations ashore. 156 patients were treated at Kuchiveli and another 216 patients in Gandhinagar camp by the IN team (ex-INS Jamuna) operating in Nelaveli.

    The Disaster Relief Team at Nelaveli Camp fabricated 12 foundation grippings, 3 roofs of barracks at SLNS Valagamba and installed portable genset for 20 tents in the relief camp at Sambalthivu. The Relief Team (at Kuchuveli Camp) carried out repairs to the emergency DA of Kuchuveli hospital and made it operational

Relief Assistance to Maldives (Op CASTOR)

ICGS Vigraha and one Dornier aircraft continues to be deployed in Maldives to support relief operations at various islands.

Indonesia (Op GAMBHIR)

INS Nirupak (Hospital Ship) with Chetak helecopter, off Meulaboh (Indonesia), is operating a medical camp ashore and also provided medical support to the General Hospital.
