AN UPDATE
Extensive relief operations were launched by the Indian Navy in the wake of the Tsunami disaster, which included deployment of 27 ships, 19 helicopters, four Dornier and two Islander aircraft and more than 5000 personnel. Additional ships, aircraft and personnel have been kept at immediate notice at various Naval Bases for deployment as the need arises. A broad summary of the relief operations carried out in the last 24 hours is described below.
360 tonnes of Relief Supplies have been embarked onboard ships and aircraft, out of which 180 tonnes has already been offloaded as follows:-
