Commander
Sheikh Shaukat
Ali assumed command of INS Tarangini on
26 April 2001. He
is an alumnus of the Naval Academy and was commissioned into
the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1984. He was awarded the Bronze
medal for his performance in the Academy. He is a graduate
of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
A Communication and Electronic Warfare specialist, he
has held a number of appointments both afloat and ashore.
Notable sea appointments include Signal Communication
Officer INS Androth and INS Taragiri, Executive Officer INS
Porbander and Command of INSDB T 59. His staff appointments
include Staff Officer (Commn & EW) Local Workup Team
(East) and Directing Staff (Commn & EW) at the Maritime
Warfare Centre, Kochi prior to assuming the Command of
Tarangini

PUSHPENDRA KUMAR GARG |
Commander
Pushpendra Kumar Garg is an alumnus of the National Defence
Academy and was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jan
1984. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff
College, Wellington. A Navigation and Direction specialist,
he has held a number of appointments both afloat and ashore.
His notable sea appointments include Navigating Officer of
INS Sukanya and Executive Officer of INS Bhavnagar. Besides,
Cdr Garg is a yachtsman of international repute and has
represented India in international yachting events for 15
years. His high points include winning the Enterprise Class
World Championship in 1993 and being runner up in 1997. He
has represented India in 4 Asian Games and has won 2 Bronze
medals. Cdr Garg has been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel
Ratna award, the country's highest sports award besides the
Arjuna award for excellence in the sport of yachting.
Cdr PK Garg will take over the command of INS
Tarangini at Montreal and sail the ship till Suva (Fiji).
Commander
Mukul Asthana was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 21 Jul 1986 after obtaining Second Mate (FG)
certificate from the Merchant Marine. He is an alumnus of
the Naval Academy and a graduate of the Defence Services
Staff College, Wellington.
A Dornier pilot, he has held a number of appointments
both afloat and ashore. His notable sea appointments include
Navigating Officer INS Kakinada, Executive Officer INS Veer
and Command of INS Nashak. His shore appointments include
Staff Pilot IW Squadron and Deputy Director Naval Air
Staff at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi. He is a keen sailor
and interested in outdoor activities such as mountaineering
and riding. Commander
Mukul Asthana will take over the command of INS Tarangini at
Suva (Fiji) and will remain in command till termination of
the voyage at Mumbai.
